POLK CITY, Fla. — The United States Veteran Water Ski Team has been selected by the American Water Ski Association's International Activities Committee. The team members were chosen after the U.S. Veteran Water Ski Team Trials at Arilyt Lake in Lawton, Mich.

The team will represent the United States at the 2001 Americas' Challenge, November 22-25, in Santiago, Chile. The Americas' Challenge is a biennial competition that features countries from North, Central and South America competing in slalom, tricks and jumping.

The 2001 U.S. Veteran Water Ski Team members are: Anne Bennett of Zachary, La.; Cyndi Benzel of Groveland, Fla.; Mike Meek of Albany, Ohio; and Jeff Smith of Lawton, Mich.. Thomas Danford of Angola, Ind. and Darren Janzig of Duluth, Minn. were named the alternates.

"The athletes that were selected to the U.S. Veteran Water Ski Team are all extremely qualified to represent the United States in international competition," said Lisa St. John, USA Water Ski's director of competition and athlete programs. "I am confident that this team will perform very well at the Americas' Challenge."
